Man Into Woman: The First Sex Change by Lili Elbe

lili

This novel tells the fascinating and heartbreaking account of Einar Wegener’s transition into Lili Elbe. Einar was an artist in the late 1920’s. His wife, Grete, was too and one day he helped her with a painting by dressing as the model – a woman. So began his conflicted relationship with gender. It’s an incredible story of love—Grete supports Einar—and bravery. I found it hard to get to the details because of the flowery, more stand-offish writing style of the time.
