A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

This book weaves a fascinating cast of characters between present day and the 1980’s rock scene. In fact, I think it’s a brilliant example of how a modern book can be structured. It switches between characters, place, and, time – without repetition and with fresh vantages. Although many books aim for what this one achieves, they usually fall very short. “A Visit” is full of tight, wonderful writing and vivid characters. It’s funny, dark, and perceptive.
