All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews

This novel is about two sisters. Elfrieda is a beautiful, famous concert pianist. She wants to commit suicide. Yolandi, her floundering younger sister, is determined to keep her alive. While examining mental health and euthanasia, Toews’ work also celebrates family. There are many well written scenes that intimately convey the bounds of blood. I loved the mom for her strength of character and insight. Although the story is dark, there are many funny parts. However, the inaccuracies about Toronto drove me crazy. And overall, the story kind of fizzled out.
