Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden

Boyden draws on his own family history to weave an intriguing tale of two Cree friends, Xavier and Elijah, who become snipers during World War I. As we follow those two different personalities during a very grim time in history, we learn about the bizarre and grotesque, yet riveting culture of trench warfare. There is a wonderful theme of storytelling that bolsters the book. Also, Cree folklore and different viewpoints make Three Day Road a very unique and rewarding tale.
