The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow

Rachel is the daughter of an American black G.I. and a Danish mother who goes to live with her paternal grandma in Portland after surviving a horrible family tragedy. She tries to fit into an African American community in which her light skin and eyes constantly draw attention to her. Her story is beautifully told through compelling vignettes and different characters’ points of view. My only criticism is that it felt like it ended rather abruptly.
