The Painter from Shanghai by Jennifer Cody Epstein

I liked this book, but wasn’t captivated by it. It took me a while to get into the story because the language was stand-offish and held me at arm’s length. The passages describing art, however, were redeeming in their beauty. I also found the ending rather fizzling and unsatisfying…almost like the author got tired.
